Hello friends, in this new blogg I am to going to speak
about one person that I admire, this decision was very difficult
because I dont know many famous people in the area of odontology. To do this
blogg I remembered the class of amalgam in the subject of "simulacion para
el ejercicio profesional" where the teacher spoke about the importance
of Black in the form of perform one amalgam restoration.
Greene Vardiman Black is known as one of the founders
of modern dentistry in the United States. He was born near Winchester, Illinois
on August 3, 1836. He is also known as the father of operative dentistry. He
researched many important topics to dentistry, including the cause of dental
fluorosis and ideal cavity preparations. These cavity preparations used
principles of engineering and material sciences to maximize strength and
retention of the amalgam filling and minimize fractures as well as tooth
anatomy, to minimize pulp exposure. The phrase "extension for
prevention" is still famous in the dental community, however, ideas have
changed and focus much more on minimal intervention today. One of his many
inventions was a foot-driven dental drill. Black published his ideas in his
text Manual of Operative Dentistry and also organized Black's Classification of
Caries Lesions.
I like Black because he is the person who began with
the odontology and motivated me to investigate in this science. Also, he
created many texts and instruments that today we use and guide us with
odontology's operations.
